Today we learnt about Karakia. I learnt all the different occasions you would recite a Karakia, for example to cease or start the rain. the meaning of Karakia and a new Karakia and what that Karakia means. We had to come up with a way to teach people this Karakia, Iziah, Aukaha and Te Whetu did a song. Aukaha wanted to do a rap.
here is our Karakia and translation:
Kua Mutu A Matau Mahi
Kua mutu a matau mahi mo tenei wa
Manaakitia mai matau katoa. O mutu hoa. O matau whanau aio ki te Aorangi -
We have finished our work. Give support to the person who is speaking. We are friends. We are family. Be calm. Go to fielding.
People would use this as a Karakia Whakamutunga for the end of the day and the end of a hui. Anyone can use this Karakia although it is mainly used by young and old.
Here is the English rap by Aukaha.
